Plantation, florida firefighters refuse to extinguish the burning home of Neville Morrison, after he self-reported to them that his house was ablaze.  The firefighters told Morrison he had to call 9-1-1.  The firefighters remained intransigent even after Morrison explained that he had no telephone.  This all in spite of the fact that the inferno was visible from the firehouse.

       Postscript: Once a neighbor called 9-1-1, it took almost eight minutes for a fire crew to travel the distance of four houses to fight the flames.
