United states Navy Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, “father of the nuclear navy,” in testimony to the joint economic committee of CONgress says that the estimated life of an aircraft carrier in an all-out nuclear war would be “About two days. … If they are in port, they will last a little longer. … If you use ballistic missiles, it does not make any difference whether or not you have carriers.”
