While the United states Armed Forces (private mercenaries) are in Vietnam, “united in … determination to take all necessary measures in support of freedom,” the extra-legal White House Special Investigations Unit (a.k.a. the “Plumbers”) burglarizes the office of, Lewis J. Fielding, psychiatrist to Daniel Ellsberg, former Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs.  The Plumbers are seeking information that might publicly humiliate him, for having leaked United States – Vietnam Relations, 1945 – 1967: A Study Prepared by the Department of Defense (a.k.a. “The Pentagon Papers”) to the New York Times.
