President Ralph D. Abernathy, Sr. of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, hosts the Poor People’s Campaign, in the District of Columbia.  The protestors are demanding that 30,000,000,000 “dollars” be spent on anti-poverty programs, which include a guaranteed national income.

Postscript: Eventually the campaign established an encampment of 3,000 tent dwellers called “Resurrection City,” at the base of the Washington Monument.
