The Birmingham Campaign continues: With the city jail full, and children participating in the campaign, Commissioner of Public Safety, T. Eugene “Bull” Conner, of Birmingham, alabama, deploys firemen with water hoses, and police dogs to intimidate the peaceful protesters against racial segregation.
NOTE: The images on national television of, non-violent marchers being assaulted with police dogs and fire hoses helped to galvanize public opinion against Conner, and for the Civil Rights Movement.
