Whig (nationalist) President Fillmore turns the presidency over to Democratic (constitutionalist) former Senator Franklin Pierce, of New Hampshire. Fillmore is giving to Pierce a federal debt that has contracted from 63,400,000 to 59,900,000 Dollars, remaining at 2% of the Gross National Product, but going from 2.70 to 2.30 Dollars per person.
NOTE: The Union is still paying for the Panic of 1837 and the Mexican-American War through lawful Indirect (tariffs and excise) taxes placed upon manufactured goods.
