Independent Democrat (constitutionalist) President Tyler turns the presidency over to Democratic (constitutionalist) former Governor, James K. Polk, of Tennessee. Tyler is giving to Polk a federal debt that has expanded from 5,300,000 to 16,000,000 Dollars, going from 0.3 to 1% of the Gross National Product, and from 30 to 80 Cents per person.
NOTE: The Union is still paying for the Panic of 1837 through lawful Indirect (tariffs and excise) taxes placed upon manufactured goods.
