Whig (nationalist) Vice President John Tyler assumes the presidency upon the death of Whig de facto President William Henry Harrison (a resident of the federal enclave of Ohio). Tyler is receiving from Harrison a federal debt that is virtually unchanged at 5,300,000 Dollars, which is 0.3% of the Gross National Product with an individual share of 30 Cents per person.
NOTE: The Union is still paying for the Panic of 1837 through lawful Indirect (tariffs and excise) taxes placed upon manufactured goods.
