The Second Warsaw Revolt begins: Tadeusz Bór-Komorowski, Antoni Chruściel and Tadeusz Pełczyński, commanding various factions of the Polish Home Army, unleash a rebellion of over 47,000 against the Nazi German occupation, as the Red Army, of the Soviet Union, is approaching Warsaw. Upon being informed of the revolt, Marshal Georgy K. Zhukov, commander of the Soviet Western Front of the Red Army orders his troops to halt their advance until AFTER the Germans have defeated the Poles.
NOTE: At about this time, as the allied (United States, British Commonwealth of Nations, Free French Forces, Poland, etc.) armies were approaching Paris, France, the French Underground began their revolt against their German occupation. In this case general of the army (of the United states) Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander, ordered resources diverted to aid the French guerillas.
