Ayn Rand, founder of the Objectivist school of philosophy, publishes The Fountainhead, which advances her thesis that the highest ideal that humankind can strive for is preservation of our own individuality and creativity; that it is morally wrong to force a person to sacrifice oneself for the sake of others.
