Bloody Sunday I: Imperial Guard Soldiers, loyal to Czar Nicholas II, fire upon petitioners carrying paintings of the Czar, and singing “God Save the Czar.” The Soldiers kill at least 143, wound up to 800, and arrest 6,831. The supplicants were asking the Czar for an end to the Russo-Japanese War, better treatment of factory workers and creation of an elected national assembly (parliament).
