The Peninsular Campaign begins at the Battle of Williamsburg: Major General James Longstreet, commanding the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia fights to a draw against the compulsory Union Army of the Potomac, commanded by Major General George McClellan. More than 4,000 Americans are killed.
