The Battle of Wilson’s Creek/Oak Hills (Missouri): Major General Sterling Price, of the Missouri State Guard, commanding the Militias of Missouri and Arkansas, defeats the compulsory Union Army of the West, commanded by Major Samuel D. Sturgis.

       NOTE: Five hundred thirty Americans were killed on both sides, including Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon, who led the Army of the West into battle.
