The Kansas Civil War continues: At the re-convening of the divided (Democratic and American/Republican) 33rd Constitutional Congress (elected in accordance with Article I, Section 3 [Clause 1]), Democratic (constitutionalist) President Pierce expresses his regrets that the federal enclave of Kansas “was made the battlefield.”
NOTE: It was Pierce himself who created that battlefield in the first place by signing the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
