James Buchanan, Secretary of State, and Richard Pakenham, Ambassador from the United Kingdom to the united States, sign the Oregon Treaty extending the Gallatin-Robinson Treaty boundary of the 49th parallel, between the united States and British North America, to the Puget Sound, thus evenly dividing the disputed enclave of Oregon between the two nations.
