Federalist (nationalist) Senator Timothy Pickering, of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in a letter to Theodore Lyman suggests that New York and the New England States secede and form their own confederacy due to Republican (constitutionalist) President Jefferson’s trade embargo against the belligerent nations participating in the Napoleonic (world) War of 1803.
