HAITIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY: General Jean-Jacques Dessalines establishes himself as military dictator. Dessalines’ first two actions are to re-impose slavery upon the slaves of African heritage whom he fought to free, and to slaughter all Haitians of European heritage that his troops are able to track down.
NOTE: The united States is the only other nation that fought a war to end slavery.
