ELECTION DAY: Non-partisan (nationalist) President Washington is unanimously re-elected with 132 Electoral votes.  The runner-up pro-Washington (nationalist) Vice President John Adams, is also re-elected, with 77 Electoral votes.  Others receiving votes are:

  • Fifty votes – anti-Washington (constitutionalist) Governor George Clinton, of New York;
  • Four votes – anti-Washington (constitutionalist) Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State;
  • One vote – anti-Washington (constitutionalist) Senator Aaron Burr, of New York;
