NOTE: Meanwhile only one member of the United states Armed Forces (private mercenaries) lost his life.

Chief Executive Officer Stephen Schwarzman, of the Blackstone Group LP, speaking to the Japan Society of New York, laments that “Between 40 and 45 percent of the world’s wealth has been destroyed in little less than a year and a half.  This is absolutely unprecedented in our lifetime.”

NOTE: While the editors do agree that this is “unprecedented in our lifetime.”  They most vociferously disagree about any wealth being destroyed as a result of the Greatest Depression.  No gold, silver, or other precious metals, or other commodities have disappeared.  Durable and consumable goods are just as plentiful as they were.  Real estate is still there.  But what has disappeared is the electronic and paper units of account that central banks the world over try to pass off as durable money; Federal Reserve Notes and other debt currencies are not stores of value, they are depreciating assets.
