Outside Iskandariyah, Iraq, United States Army Staff Sergeant Michael A. Hensley (private mercenary) orders Staff Sergeant Evan Vela to kill Genei Nasir al-Janabi, after al-Janabi stumbled upon their position in the middle of the night. Vela later planted an AK-47 on al-Janabi’s corpse.
Postscript: Hensley received immunity in exchange for a guilty plea to lesser charges and testimony against Vela: “I told Sgt. Vela to pull out his 9-mm [pistol] and ‘crack it.’ I told Vela to shoot.”
NOTE: Apparently following orders is not a defense.
