Brigadier General George Rogers Clark, commanding the Militia of Virginia, captures Fort Vincennes, on the Wabash River. This strengthens the claim of the Commonwealth of Virginia to that portion of the British enclave of Quebec south of the Great Lakes, and north of the Ohio and east of the Mississippi Rivers.
