George III (r. 1760 – 1776, in the colonies; died 1820) lends his assent to the second and third of the Intolerable Acts: The Massachusetts Government Act suspends the 1691 royal charter granting self-government, and places the colony under martial law; the Administration of Government Act provides for removing trials to Nova Scotia or Great Britain, where jurors will be less sympathetic to the accused.
