The War of the Austrian Succession ends with the signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle:
- Maria Theresa retains her thrones;
- The Austrian enclave of Silesia is turned over to Prussia;
- Maria Theresa’s husband, Francis of Lorraine, becomes Holy Roman Emperor;
- France returns the Austrian Netherlands to Austria; and
- Great Britain agrees to return the captured enclave Cape Breton Island back to the Kingdom of France.
