Republican (constitutionalist) Vice President Thomas Jefferson, ghost writer of the “Kentucky Resolutions, writes to Republican Congressman James Madison, of the Commonwealth of Virginia, ghost writer of the Virginia Resolutions, suggesting that they both incorporate the phrase, “sever ourselves from the [U]nion we so much value, rather than give up the rights to self-government which we have reserved,” into their secessionist essays.
