The Rump Parliament passes the Settlement Act of 1652, outlawing Catholicism in Ireland, making the harboring of a Catholic priest punishable by death, requiring Irish Catholics to attend Protestant religious services and removing the children of Catholic parents to be raised in foster homes where they would receive Protestant religious education.
