The War of the Spanish Succession ends: Emissaries of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Spain complete the signing of the Treaties of Utrecht. Philippe of Anjou, of the pro-French House of Bourbon, assumes the throne of Spain as Philippe V, but renounces any claim to the throne of France.
