The (world) War of the League of Augsburg ends with the signing of the last of the six Treaties of Ryswick:
- France returns Alsace-Lorraine to the Holy Roman Empire;
- France ends its occupation of Luxembourg and the Spanish Netherlands;
- France agrees to withdraw its support of the exiled James II (a Catholic, r. 1685 – 1688);
- France renounces its claims in the Holy Roman Empire;
- France resumes control of Acadia (Nova Scotia/New Scotland).
