The Second English Civil War ends at the Battle of Worcester: General-of-the-Horse Oliver Cromwell, commanding the (Puritan) New Model Army, defeats the Army of Scotland, commanded by Charles II (a secret Catholic, r. 1649 – 1651, in Scotland; 1660 – 1685, in England and Scotland).  With his position left untenable, Charles begins his escape to the Kingdom of France.
