Premier Anglican Henry VIII (a Catholic, until 1534; an Anglican afterward; r. 1509 – 1547) dies. The Crown now passes to his sickly, nine-year-old son Edward VI (an Anglican, r. 1547 – 1553). On his deathbed, Henry decreed that they Crown would pass to his niece Lady Jane Grey (r. 1553) ONLY if all of his children and their heirs predecease her.
