While the United states Armed Forces (private mercenaries) are ostensibly in control of Afghanistan, Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, opium poppy cultivation has increased 17% over the previous year.  This is the second year in a row the illicit crop has had a record harvest, despite the expenditure by the U.s. of 600,000,000 “dollars” at eradication efforts.
