The city of Oakland, california seizes Revelli Tires and Autohouse, forcing its owner, first-generation immigrant Tony Fung to give up on “the American dream.” John Revelli, Fung’s landlord, is forces into an early retirement that he is not prepared for: Revelli had planned on supplementing his income with continued rent payments that Fung would be making in perpetuity. The land is to become part of a private apartment complex that will bring in increased property tax revenues to the city of Oakland.
Postscript: The condemned building remained vacant for many months before it was razed, during which time Revelli Tires could have continued to operate.
