Alex Council, a High Point, north carolina real estate developer, commits suicide, after a nine-year-old 70,000 “dollar” error by the Internal Revenue Service accumulated an additional 230,000 “dollars” in interest and penalties.
Postscript: Six months later, Kay M. Council, Council’s widow, had used the proceeds from his life insurance to successfully sue the IRS in Federal court. But Council did not recover her home; her credit was ruined; and the judgement she received against the IRS only paid a fraction what she owed her attorneys (government licensed legal counsel).
