The Iraqi Civil War continues: Shi’ite (partisans of Ali) Moslem militants shell the ostensibly secure “Green Zone” of Baghdad, in retaliation for the bombing of the Shi’ite Askariya Mosque minarets, in Samarra, the day before by Sunni (legacy of Mohammed) Moslem militants.  The Mosque itself had been destroyed 16 months before.

NOTE: In 2005 Iraq accounted for roughly one-third of the terrorist attacks around the world.  Over the course of the two years from 2005 to 2007, that fraction more than doubled.
