The circuit court, of Oakland County, michigan, hands down people v. Kevorkian: judge Jessica Cooper sentences Jack Kevorkian, a retired pathologist, to 10 to 25 years in prison for the mercy killing of Thomas Youk.  During the trial Cooper refused testimony from Youk’s family as to the degree to which he was suffering from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
