The Bundestag (lower legislative house) of the socialist Federal Republic of (West) Germany and the Volkskammer (unicameral legislature) of the formerly communist Democratic Republic of (East) Germany simultaneously ratify the Unification Treaty approving the merger of the two nations. The vote is 442-47 in the Bundestag and 299-80 in the Volkskammer.
Postscript: The following day, the Bundeskrat (lower legislative house) ratified the treaty.
