The Revolutions of 1989 continue: In an effort to end the myriad of wildcat labor strikes, Prime Minister Wojciech W. Jaruzelski, of communist Poland, signs the “Round Table Agreement” with Lech Wałesa, co-founder of the illegal, independent Solidarity trade union, agreeing to recognize the union and hold the first competitive, free elections in the Soviet-bloc.

Postscript: Solidarity membership quickly swelled to over 1,500,000 members.
