Los Angeles, california, statute enforcement officers, (operating under color-of-law) break-up a lawful, peaceful Operation Rescue protest against abortion on demand. The officers use pain compliance holds causing “broken bones, muscle strains, bruises and contusions, although the injured demonstrators were not actively resisting arrest.” In addition to the legal use of pain compliance holds in an inappropriate manner, several officers removed their badges and name tags and beat the protestors—who were not resisting arrest—with their side-handle batons. Others sexually assaulted the women with strip searches that went beyond that necessary for the health and safety of detention.
