Commander-in-Chief Reagan approves the transformation of the Rapid Deployment Force into the United states Central Command, the first such regional command created in the past 35 years.  The mission of CENTCOM is to “direct and enable military operations and activities with allies and partners to increase regional security and stability in support of enduring U.[s]. [government] interests.”
