At a fractious, divided Libertarian Party national convention, Bruce Evoy, in costume, plays Patrick Henry, delivering his “Give me Liberty, or Give me Death” speech.  The speech has a calming, sobering effect on the delegates after “the hall exploded “with applause, cheers and whistles.”  James Kraft-Lorenz then is able to propose his now history-making plank into the LP platform titled “Jury Rights”:

       We oppose the current practice of forced jury duty and favor all-volunteer juries.  In addition, we urge the assertion of the common-law right of juries to judge not only the facts but also the justice of the law.  Juries may hold all criminal laws invalid that are, in their opinion, unjust or oppressive, and find all persons not guilty of violating such laws.
