The Tet Offensive begins: General Van Tien Dung, commanding the People’s Army of (North) Vietnam, and General Hoang Van Thai, commanding the People’s Liberation Armed Forces of South Vietnam (a.k.a. “Viet Cong”) break the unofficial Chinese New Year truce and attack United states Armed Forces and Army of the kleptocratic Republic of (South) Vietnam positions.

As part of the offensive, 19 Viet Cong guerillas, on a suicide mission, penetrate the perimeter of the United states’ Embassy in Saigon, but are killed, by embassy guards before they are able to  take any buildings.
