[Our] people are not a warlike nation.  It is a soldierly one, which means it does not want war but does not fear it.  It loves peace, but also its honor and freedom.

—— Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf.

We are not a warlike people.  Quite the opposite.  We always seek to live in peace.  We resort to force infrequently and with great reluctance–and only after we have determined that it is absolutely necessary.

—— Ronald W. Reagan, July 17, 1980.

The Third Marine Expeditionary Unit (private mercenaries), under orders from Commander-in-Chief Lyndon Johnson, invades the Dominican Republic, to prevent a communist revolution.  This begins the U.s.’ 12th attempt at nation building.

       NOTES:

  • This is the second time the United States has invaded the Dominican Republic, whereas the Dominican Republic has never invaded the U.s.
  • While “nation-building is a laudable goal, Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution for the united States says that “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government”; it does NOT state that “The United States shall guarantee to every nation on this planet a Republican Form of Government” [emphasis added].
