The supreme court, of the corporate United states, hands down Abington School District (pennsylvania) v. Schempp, declaring as unlawful statutes requiring the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, or read other Biblical passages in government-run public schools.  The court also declares that from now on it forbidden to recite the Lord’s Prayer, or read the Bible in government-run public schools.

       Questions:

  • Might one describe a totalitarian society as one in which everything that is not forbidden is required, and everything that is not required is forbidden?
  • Where in the Constitution does it explicitly state that it is the duty of the state to run the schools?
