The second Red Scare continues: The Federal court for the southern district of new york hands down United states v. Hiss: judge Henry W. Goddard—after a SECOND trial—sentences Alger Hiss, former Director of the Office of Special Political Affairs for the department of state, to five years in prison for perjury, denying under oath that he was a member of the Communist Party USA.
