Ernest Bevin, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom, and Georges-Augustin Bidault, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of France, sign the Treaty of Dunkirk ostensibly committing both nations to a mutual defense pact against any future military aggression by Germany.
