Twelve-hundred, forty-nine heavy bombers of the army of the United states and the Royal Air Force, in FOUR waves, begin bombing Dresden, Germany—a city of little strategic value.  But Dresden city is overpopulated with refugees fleeing the advancing Soviet Red Army.

        Postscript: Dresden was bombed again the following day, on March 2 and April 17.
