Operation Eiche (German for “Oak”): Paratroopers of the Army of Germany—personally selected by dictator Adolf Hitler—rescue former Fascist Prime Minister Benito Mussolini, of Italy, from internal exile, at the Campo Imperatore Hotel, a ski resort in the Apennine Mountains, and installed as puppet dictator of the Italian Social Republic (German occupied northern Italy).
