The undeclared naval war against Germany continues: Newly promoted Lieutenant Commander Erich Topp, commanding U-552, of the Navy of fascist Germany, sinks the USS Reuben James, commanded by lieutenant commander (sic) Heywood L. Edwards.  One hundred, eight American sailors and all seven officers lose their lives.
