The CONgressionally funded Federal Theatre Project gives its final performance final performance, as its funding authorization has expired. At the end of this unique performance of “Pinocchio,” the puppet dies, rather than becoming a boy. Stagehands and actors place Pinocchio in a coffin wit the sign:
Thus passed Pinocchio.
Born December 23, 1935, died June 30, 1939.
Killed by an Act of Congress.
NOTE: While the editors are not opposed to various public amusements, such as live theatre, they simply wish to point out the Constitution for the united States does not authorize Congress to subsidize the arts.
