The federal Court for the northern district of Illinois hands down United states v. Standard Oil: Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis fines Standard Oil Corporation 29,240,000 Dollars for accepting (free-market) rebates on shipping rates in violation of the Elkins Act.

       NOTE: The fine had to be paid into the U.s. Treasury, as there was no party that had been victimized by this violation.
