The Battle of Liberty Place: “General” Frederick N. Ogden, a former Confederal Major of artillery, commanding the Crescent City White League, defeats the Militia of Louisiana, commanded by former Confederate General James Longstreet.  The White Leaguers expel Republican (nationalist) Governor William P. Kellogg, whom they regard to be a usurper; and install racist Democratic (constitutionalist) John McEnery in his place.

Postscript: Three days later, the Whiter Leaguers abandoned McEnery, when Major General William H. Emory, commanding the Department of the Gulf, entered New Orleans to restore Kellogg.
